Informal Theme 2.2

Fluency in English language or mastery of mother tongue, what do you think?

Can you even imagine your life not saying things you ought to say or write or express? I mean, you would be like "uh, uh, ah, ah" or maybe "huuuh, hiiiieee, huukkkk" something like that. Things won't be made possible because people can't easily communicate. Meaning, innovation won't be possible and these words that I'm typing and the fact that you're reading this won't be possible as well. The thought is too vague I can't even put it in words. IT IS NOT EVEN IMAGINABLE NOT A SINGLE THING OF IT IS IMAGINABLE. I'm so aghast thinking of it I shouldn't even consider writing it down here.

Fluency in English language or mastery of Mother tongue? What would you chose between the two?

Up to the point that I'm writing this to you, people are still contemplating that unsubstantial dilemma. They say if you won't embrace you mother tongue, consider yourself as the worst person in the world or an outcast to your own country. As though it's some kind of a heinous crime or the like. On the contrary, we tend to push ourselves into the fluency in English because it is what the world asks us for. I'm not being provocative or something, just trying to tell the truth, really.

The Department of Education had given their stand about this as well, in the matter of learning however. They said that if a child would start to learn basic principles through his mother tongue, learning would be much more easier for him as well as gathering more knowledge about the matters the world is trying to instill within him. Literacy improvement is a high priority of the DepEd and the national government. I think it is a wise move for the department because as a child, English words are just English words but his mother tongue for instance, Tagalog words are not just Tagalog words... they mean something. Tagalog words mean what they really meant but English words, as for a child, are just words uttered blankly into the air, in a way that if you've said a word repeatedly, it'll lose its true sense. Kind of a pop culture. I hope you're getting my point.

For me, I'd choose over mastery of mother tongue because I believe that if you aren't too proud about your own language, you're nothing but a living slave of the world that's trying to alienate everyone even himself. I'm not being too patriotic or anything though, it is just that, I can't let anyone or any country trample over our sacred language. I mean, our heroes fought for this, freedom as what it is, and in a way, they're counting on us to protect everything they left us behind, most importantly our culture and freedom. And language counts to that. We should even be thankful of those great ancestors who left all these for us. We can be thankful by not letting their legacy to disappear because we can do something about it, like what the government is doing. In its simplest way, we should use it and never forget to look back where we came from.

English however, is what we need if we'd want to apply and they'll need some job interviews. That is when the importance of fluency in English language comes to life. Anyway I'll phrase this short because I chose mastery of mother tongue rather than fluency in English language. English is important, I can leave it like that because that is the main reason why we are putting effort into practicing it or even studying and using it.

Generally speaking, language is made to communicate and we are not to make a fuzz out of it. As long as we can understand each other, there is no such problem to fix or create or whatsoever.
